Powerhouse Clown House

As part of the Kingman Historic Ghost Walks, the Route 66 museum at the Powerhouse Visitor Center will be set up as a walk through haunted house this year. Visitors will make their way through a haunted maze that will be set up in the museum. The theme is the “Clown House” so you are forewarned! This event may be too scary for young children. While the haunted house is accessible for those with disabilities, we ask that you not bring children in strollers.

The Powerhouse Clown House will be open from 6:00-9:00 pm October 21-22 and 28-29. Tickets are $10 and available online at www.bealestreettheater.com or at the door. Click here to purchase tickets online. This event is sponsored by the Kingman City Tourism Dept. and the Curiosity Shop.

Warning there will be bright and flashing lights as part of this event.

Beale Street Theater Variety Benefit

Beale Street Theater is proud to announce the Beale Street Theater Benefit Variety Show. This staged variety show features performances from talented members of the Kingman Community. Kingman definitely has talent and this show proves it! Performances include dance, musical theater, singing, acting, trumpet solo, string ensemble, a rock band, piano and more. Many of these are professional level performances by professional performers. 

This event is a fundraiser for the Beale Street Theater. We are making progress on the renovations but are in need of more funding to complete the project. More information on this project will be forthcoming. We appreciate the support of Toby Orr and Angle Homes for their help with the current construction.

The benefit show will take place on October 15, 2022 at Lee Williams High School, 400 Grandview Ave. in Kingman, AZ. Shows will start at 1:00pm and 7:00pm.

Open Auditions for 2022 Ghost Walks

It’s time for our annual Kingman Historic Ghost Walks! We are holding auditions for tour guides, actors, and production crew. 

Auditions will take place on Monday, August 22, 2022 at the MCC Center, 309 E. Beale Street at 6pm. Please prepare a 1 minute monologue if you would like to audition for a tour guide or story actor. Effect actors and production volunteers don’t need to prepare anything.

As part of Beale Street Theater’s annual Kingman Historic Ghost Walk, The Powerhouse Visitor Center will be participating as a walk through haunted house. 

We are looking for actors to dress up and participate in this experience. We also need volunteers to help with other aspects of the production. 

Auditions are August 9th at 6:00pm the Powerhouse, 120 W. Andy Devine Ave, Kingman. No preparations are necessary.

We are excited to announce open auditions for the Beale Street Theater Variety Benefit Show. We are looking for musicians, singers, dancers, gymnasts, actors, comedians, magicians, bands, group acts, etc. Accepted performers will be a part of our variety show that performs on October 1st. All proceeds from this final show go towards the Beale Street Theater renovation project. 

This is a digital, video audition. Your act should not exceed 8 minutes and should be submitted to [email protected] by August 1st. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Beale Street Dinner Theater

Beale Street Theater is proud to announce our upcoming dinner theater production featuring the western melodrama “The Great Denver Railroad Scam” by Douglas Kotwica. Directed by Kristina Michelson, this fun theatrical performance features the classic melodrama struggle of hero, Pastor Pat Pasternack, as he works to thwart the evil villain, Horace Horsefat’s, diabolical plans. The ending of this story will leave you guessing with its clever plot twist.

Dates and locations are as follows:

July 29-30 takes place at Hualapai Mountain Resort Event Center at 6pm, with a 12pm matinee on the 30th. It is located at 4525 Hualapai Mountain Rd., Kingman

August 5-6 will take place at Beale Celebrations at 6pm, with a 12pm matinee on the 6th. It is located at 201 N. 4th Street, Kingman.

*Tickets should be purchased early so we can get an accurate count for dinner orders.

Snow White and the Prince

Snow White prepares for her birthday ball and dreams of finding her prince charming. When the star-crossed couple meets it’s love at first sight, but the vain and evil Queen – who fears the princess’ beauty – will stop at nothing to be the fairest of the land. With the help of a trusted friend, Snow White is forced to flee into the forest. This romantic and funny adventure has all your beloved characters and a few more beside: the raven-haired and resourceful Snow White, the very charming Prince Philippe, his kind and shrewd butler Rupert, the evil and devious Queen, a witty and slightly beleaguered Magical Mirror – and of course, there are the Dwarves – need we say more? A clever retelling of a classic tale – one for children and adults alike!

Directed by Sidney Valdez, the show runs June 10, 11, 17, 18 at 7:00pm with a matinee on June 18 at 1:00pm. They will take place at Lee Williams High School, 400 Grandview Ave. in Kingman, Arizona.

Disney Musicals in Schools

Kingman Center for the Arts is excited to partner with Disney to run Disney Musicals in Schools in Kingman. We currently have three schools participating in the program, Hualapai Elementary, Black Mountain Elementary and KAOL Intermediate School. We are looking to add more schools to this list!

Newly selected schools will be given a 17-week musical theater residency during the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Each school will receive performance rights, education support materials and guidance from two teaching artists. The program features a professional development focus, through which participating school teachers partner with the Kingman Center For The Arts teaching artists to learn how to produce, direct, choreograph and music direct, culminating in their first 30-minute Disney KIDS musical at their school.

Disney Musicals in Schools was launched in 2010 in response to Disney Theatrical Production’s concern that under-resourced public elementary schools were not afforded equitable access to the arts. After successfully offering the program in New York City schools, Disney Theatrical Productions began partnering with organizations in other communities across the United States.

Disney KIDS musicals, created in partnership with Music Theater International (MTI), are 30-minute musicals designed for elementary school performers and have been adapted from the classic Disney films 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, The Aristocats, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Winnie the Pooh and Frozen.

Using the unique world of musical theater, Disney Musicals in Schools helps to foster positive relationships between students, faculty, staff, parents, and the community.  Students and teachers work in teams, developing the wide spectrum of skills needed when producing a piece of musical theater, including: critical thinking, problem solving, ensemble building, communication, self-confidence, and interpersonal skills.

We are happy to have this program here in our city and look forward to many years of live theater in our community’s elementary schools.

SOAR–Student Outreach and Art Renditions

Kingman Center for the Arts is excited to announce more dates and times for our SOAR program. We have partnered with our local MSTEPP organization to help educate our communities children about opioids through this arts-based program. 

Participants get to experience many different forms of art as they learn about opioids, their benefits and potential for addiction. We discuss how art can be used as a coping mechanism for life’s challenges, something that can help us become resilient to unhealthy behaviors. 

Art forms we explore are acting, painting, music, drawing, writing and dance. We also have discussions about support systems, addiction, substance abuse, mental health and more. 

The class is being offered at no cost to participants and is for ages 12-18. We have several upcoming sessions. 

March 28-April 7 at KAOL Middle School, after school

April 11-April 21 at Lee Williams High School, after school

May 2-12t at Wildflower Studios from 4-6pm

Classes run Monday-Thursday for two weeks. You must be a student at the respective schools to attend those sessions but the session at Wildflower Studios is open to all teens. If you would like to participate or have your children participate, email us at [email protected]

The Beale Street Theater is very excited to present, “The Sound of Music”, on March 25-26, 2022 and April 1-2, 2022 at 7:00 PM and at 1:00pm on March 26 and April 2. Performances will be held at Kingman High School, which is located at 4182 N Bank St, Kingman, AZ 86409.  Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for children ages 4-11. One of the most beloved musicals of all time! In Austria, 1938, an exuberant young governess brings music and joy back to a broken family, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. Directed by Kristina Michelson and starring some amazing local talent, this musical theater production is sure to offer a fun evening of entertainment for the whole family.

The Kingston Trio

We have received word that the scheduled performance by The Kingston Trio needs to be postponed for several weeks. Singer Mike Marvin contracted Covid and was hospitalized. He is out now and healing but needs some more recouperation time. We will reschedule this concert as soon as he is feeling well enough to perform again.

The Beale Street Theater is very excited to present “The Kingston Trio”. The Kingston Trio, a classic folk music group will be performing on Friday March 11, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Lee Williams High School, which is located at 400 Grandview Ave, Kingman, AZ 86401. Fans of legendary folk icons The Kingston Trio can re-discover their timeless music all over again. In celebration of 60-plus years of music, the iconic folk group performs their best-loved songs as part of the ‘Keep The Music Playing’ national tour. All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich, have intrinsic links to the original group: Mike is the “adopted son” of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a friend of John Stewart since he was in his early twenties, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, a highly regarded musician who has also toured with the original Trio.
The Kingston Trio was one of the most prominent groups of the era’s pop-folk boom that started in 1958 with the release of their first album and its hit recording of “Tom Dooley”, which sold over three million copies as a single.
Cited as an influence by recording artists as musically and generationally diverse as Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Eagles to comedian and banjo player Steve Martin to contemporary artists such as the multi-Grammy® nominated Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers, The Kingston Trio occupies a unique, preeminent position in American musical history.
The Trio released 19 albums that made Billboard’s Top 100, 14 of which ranked in the top 10, and five of which hit the number 1 spot. Four of the group’s LPs charted among the 10 top-selling albums for five weeks in November and December 1959, a record unmatched for more than 50 years, and the group still ranks in the all-time lists of many of Billboard’s cumulative charts, including those for most weeks with a number 1 album, most total weeks charting an album, most number 1 albums, most consecutive number 1 albums, and most top ten albums.

Kingman Historic Ghost Walk

We are back for our fifth annual Kingman Historic Ghost Walks. This year is bigger and better. We are excited to have new tour routes and more stories and spots to visit at this year’s event. See below for tour descriptions. This event is directed by Nick Hunt and Matt Hecht. The Thriller dance is choreographed by Jewelee Steed.

Tour A: Start at the city complex located at 4th and Oak streets, over to Third Street, down to and around Route 66 then up 4th Street, ends at the ArtHub.

Tour B: Start at the city complex located at 4th and Oak streets, over to 5th street, up to Palo Christie School, back down to Spring Street, over to 4th Street, and down to Beale Street where the tour will end at the ArtHub.

Both tours include the Thriller dance along with costumed tour guides, actors, and ghosts.

We also have the Powerhouse Visitor Center available for tours. Those tours will be sold separately from the Ghost walk tours. The “Haunted Powerhouse” includes a guided tour through the museum as well as access to parts of the building the public doesn’t normally see. Guides will share stories from the building’s past and present that employees have experienced along with some of its history. Be on the look out for the ghosts and spooks that may pay a visit along the way.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for kids (ages 4-11)
